
Kunar thriving result in Mental Health

Dr.Abdullah Rawan Kunar’s mental health program responsible says that they could treat some 7000 mentally cases psychologically or by drugs in one year.
Giving training to 74 Drs and Midwives, 9 support groups and 80 percent of Community Health Workers (CHW) s they could achieve the figure in 25 health facilities said the Dr.
The recent improvement is coinciding in absence of mentally illnesses therapeutic centers the one which has got the AMI installing mental health programs supported technically by Health Net TPO None Governmental Organization (NGO).
Assessing the mission with positive and thriving results he hopes by community mobilization, enhancing people knowledge and expansion of health services they can tackle for more services. Immigration, poverty, family violence and clan and tribal codes, lack of transportation and therapeutic centers are counted main reasons of mental illnesses in kunar Dr.Rawan said. He added that 70% of the cured cases are women whom are the most vulnerable to mental illnesses thanks to lower rate of immunization and lingered family violence in Afghan society.
Intending community mobilization and implementation of psychosocial projects the team has enlisted 10 school teachers per district in programs releasing health massages through students to community. He says that in spite of hiking number of patients and expansion of health services coverage, lack drugs, illiteracy and security can break down their speed.
A discharged guy in anonym condition expressing his confidence and feel of triumph said “he prayed the Dr whom has changed his bitter life and saved him from suicide. He hoped all mentally illnesses affected persons come to Clinic and all get recovery in sooner time.”
The recent improvements followed referral of mentally cases to neighboring country of Pakistan, Iran and India. Mental illnesses are part of Basic Package Health Services (BPHS) programs which rates for 10 percent of sicknesses internationally.
